Estimation Engineer - MEP

About the Role

We're looking for an Estimation Engineer to join our MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) team and help us deliver accurate project budgets from concept to completion. You'll work directly with project managers, designers, and field teams to quantify materials, labor, and costs for complex building systems. This role is critical to our project profitability and client relationships—your estimates become the foundation for how we bid and execute work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates for MEP systems on commercial, industrial, and institutional projects using industry-standard takeoff software and historical data
• Conduct site visits and design reviews to identify scope complexities, material requirements, and labor considerations that impact project costs
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing designers to clarify specifications and resolve discrepancies before estimates are finalized
• Build and maintain cost databases, productivity benchmarks, and vendor pricing to continuously improve estimation accuracy
• Present estimates to project managers and clients, explaining assumptions and defending line-item costs with supporting documentation
• Track actual project performance against estimates and conduct variance analysis to identify estimation trends and improvement opportunities

Requirements

• 5-8 years of experience estimating MEP systems or related construction trades
• Proficiency with takeoff software (Bluebeam, Accubid, or similar) and experience reading construction drawings and specifications
• Strong knowledge of MEP systems, materials, labor productivity, and current market pricing
• Demonstrated ability to work with Excel, databases, and cost modeling tools
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
• Nice to have: Experience with building information modeling (BIM) or Revit for quantity extraction
• Nice to have: Background in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing trades or engineering
